Travel Information to the Participants

A warm welcome to the international conference on “Space for Sustainability: Science, Technology, Education and Policy” (S2: STEP2025) and 6th Indian Planetary Science Conference (IPSC-2025) to be held at the campus of IIT Roorkee during 04-07 March 2025.

Please note the following points in connection with the above event:

• How to Reach IIT Roorkee

The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee is located in Roorkee city which belongs to Haridwar district of Uttarakhand, India on the Delhi – Haridwar highway.

Roorkee is well connected to Delhi by rail and road. It is situated on National Highways 58 and is on Amritsar-Howrah main rail route.

Nearest Airports

The nearest airport is located at Jolly Grant, Dehradun (DED). However, the airport at New Delhi (DEL) is well-connected.

By Roadways

National Highway 58 from New Delhi to the higher reaches of the Himalayas passes via Roorkee. Roorkee is, therefore, well connected to all the major cities in the region by road. There are frequent bus services to this place from the Maharana Pratap Inter State Bus Terminal (Kashmere Gate) Delhi.

Roorkee is located approximately 170 kilometers north of Delhi. Take the highway NH 58, and it passes through Roorkee.

The city of Haridwar is located further on the same highway about 29 kilometers from Roorkee. The main bus depot of Roorkee is located on NH 58. Several buses run from various cities in North India.

By Railways

Some trains which are convenient for traveling between Delhi and Roorkee are New Delhi-Dehradun-New Delhi Shatabdi Express and Dehradun-New Delhi-Dehradun Janshatabdi Express.

To reserve a vehicle for travel from/to New Delhi airport, New Delhi Railway station, Haridwar Railway station, Dehradun Railway station and Dehradun airport, you may contact:

      • The taxi owner can provide a GST invoice. Please make sure to mention the name of your Hotel while booking the taxi and also mention the requirement for a GST invoice.
      • You can pay the taxi operator through UPI and insist on giving the invoice once the ride is complete.
      • If your accommodation is booked inside IIT Roorkee campus, please insist the taxi owner to charge “IIT Roorkee Approved Rates” only.

If you are reaching IIT Roorkee from Roorkee Railway station, hiring an E-Rickshaw is preferred.

• • • • If your accommodation is booked inside IIT Roorkee campus, please intimate the driver to take you through Gate No. 1 (Main Gate). Please convey to the security personnel that you are visiting IIT Roorkee to attend the conference. Please show your Government issued identity card when asked. A detailed list of participants will be available with the security.
      • If you have booked your accommodations in nearby hotels around IIT Roorkee, you can also enter through Gate No. 1 (Main Gate) or Gate No. 2 (Century Gate) by walking.
